About

HIVE is a ‘think and action-tank’ for teachers. Acronym for ‘highly intellectual and valiant enthusiasts’, HIVE believes that an empowered teacher leads to an empowered classroom. HIVE is designed by ensuring agency and autonomy of the teacher is centered in the learning environment. Operating at the praxis of education, HIVE is a team of teachers and researchers who believe teachers are the heart of education.

Over the recent years, trust on teachers around the world have gradually eroded due to the ever increasing nature of surveillance and accountability mechanisms. The erosion of trust further disengages and disempowers teachers to carry out their profession. Subsequently, this further distances teachers from having a voice in the complex education ecosystem. Understanding this, at the core of HIVE’s vision is teacher professional development. HIVE articulates this vision through various strategies and mechanisms.

our founder

Dr. Sirhajwan Idek is an English language teacher at Keningau Vocational College, Sabah. He has been recognised for his various education projects. He, along with his colleagues, has won the 2022 GoAbroad Innovation Award in Innovative Teach Abroad Program Category,  2021 Simon Greenall Award and 2020 YSEALI Seed for the Future. His research on visual literacy earned him the ISTE Literacy Innovation Award in 2019 and he received a grant worth of AUD 10,000 for winning the 2018 SEAMEO-Australia Education Link Award through his ethnic tales project. As the head of research and innovation at his school, he has mentored and assisted his colleagues and students to present their works at conferences, innovation contests and hackathons in both in-person and virtual…
